Sometime not so long along in a land not so far away, a loved up couple attached a padlock engraved with their names to 'Le Pont des Arts' in Paris, France. No one knows who it was but somehow over the past year, hundreds more came and attached their own. Like wild fire, it spread across other bridges along the Seine. Most stuck to the original idea, painstakingly engraving their names or having picked their best (or so we'd like to think) permanent marker carefully drew more daring messages on it.

Who is BB? I guess we will never know, but who cares? Where else but Paris could this ever happen? You would think so but somehow rumour has it that similar padlocks have been spotted as far away as Australia. I blame the internet. It is bad enough that we have to see the same bland corporate franchises wherever we go, MacDonalds, Starbucks etc., one by one they spoil your touristic experience 'have I ever been here before I wonder?'

However, beyond the corporate machinery networking sites have been doing the same pervasive work for free. That's right, one person starts a 'flashmob', thousands follow. No fresh and original idea is safe and we are all surfing that wave, literally. Networking sites have their uses, they are great, but leave them for errrr 'networking'. The explorer in us still longs for that 'never experienced before' feeling so next time you see a padlock with names engraved on it, smile and walk away.
